Julien Vallée

Julien Vallée is an incredible artist who works with 3D animation. Above are a few examples of my favourite pieces of his work. I really like the piece above...and I would like to experiment using this kind of idea for this brief.

3D Art Installations

I have looked into different kinds of art installations to try and get a bit of inspiration of ways I could approach the Sky Arts brief. I am still liking the idea of suspending the word Sky Arts, hence why I have predominantly looked at installations involving suspension.

Rotoscoping

Above you can see my first attempt at rotoscoping using photoshop. The process is really lenghty and it look me about half an hour to get about 2 seconds of footage.

3D?

Here are a few rough sketches using a print out of the SKY ARTS logo. I've been thinking about making the logo into a 3D structure this would then give me a lot of space to work themes into the idea.

Above you can see my first idea. I would suspend the Sky Arts logo from the ceiling. I imagine that the 3D structure will be made of a transparent material such as a thick clear plastic or even glass. I would then use straight filming to pan over the suspended letters. I would then pan into certain letters to reveal filmed elements such as a ballerina, an orchestra, a period drama etc all filmed using actors.

Thinking....

I decided to do a spider diagram to get any random ideas out..

One Day Brief

Today we got paired up with illustrators to basically do the brief in a two hour time slot. This really showed us how a time span can really speed up a process to create a final piece. I was joined up with Jess and Charlotte, we decided to do stop frame and use a simple stick figure to transform into the word arts. The time allowance can be seen in the final piece as its very rush :) However we did manage to get the video finished in the 2 hour slot.

Spray Paint

Here I have experimented using a stencil to create the SKYARTS logo with silver spray paint. I have done a positive and negative version...this makes me start to think about places and scales of where this could be used.

Lets SKYARTS it up

Today we met our specialism groups for the first time.
We have been set our first brief which is to design a 20 second sting for the SKYARTS channel. We spent the session trying to get a feel for the channel, the target audience, age group and its ethics.

The image above shows a page from my sketchbook on the initial feelings I got from looking at their website. It is obvious that the channel is aimed at a cultural audience, probably 30+ and this can be seen from the comments page...I have included an example which can be seen in the image above.
